Mighty Maidu Museum

Most people probably think "galleria" when they think Roseville, but I, Little Man, think "Maidu Museum"!



The Maidu Museum and Historic Site, located within Maidu Regional Park, are awesome!  Can you find me in the above photo?  Hint: A is for awesome!



There are tons of awesome displays and artifacts inside the museum.  I learned so much that my brain was ready to explode for being so full!



Photos aren't allowed inside the museum but there are plenty of photo opportunities outside. 



Strolling by the giant acorns.  Acorns were a key part of the Maidu's diet. 



They ground acorns in these spiffy bedrock mortar holes.  Mmm, acorns.



There were supposed to be petroglyphs on these rocks but I couldn't see them.



I sure did enjoy the short nature trail, though.  Gotta swing my green plastic arms while I walk!



Awesome!

Summer in the city Part II

I wasn't quite done prepping all the veggies.



I fried up some mushrooms and onions, which were fresh from the grocery store.



As was the awesome green lettuce.



All these fabulous veggies were for burgers!  I love my burgers with sesame seed buns!



I worked on layering my burgers.  The first one had cheddar cheese, hamburger, breaded jalapeño slices, onions...  The next one would have pesto, tomato...



My spiffy assortment of burgers!  My big friends and I had a jolly good time chowing down.  Summer is such an awesome time to spend indoors with the air conditioner blasting and just eat!

Summer in the city Part I

Hot town, summer in the city!  Getting sweaty while picking my veggies!



Well, the lyrics of that Lovin' Spoonful song don't exactly go like that but summer means lots of awesome fresh garden delights! 



I made a delicious pesto with basil fresh from the yard.



I sliced some fantabulous, juicy red tomatoes.



I even made a fresh tomato salsa and breaded jalapeño slices!

Garden fresh

It's zucchini time!  Yes, zucchini time and not hammer time because you can touch the zucchini all you want.



So, I lugged out the garden shears.



Aha!  Found a zucchini ready to be picked.  That was easy.  If I had an Easy Button, I'd have definitely pushed it then.



Then I'd need a Hard Button, since using garden shears as a little man is not a simple task.



After freeing the zucchini from the plant, I moved it inside.



I gave my zucchini and myself an awesome bath, and then got out the tools of the trade: a sharp knife and a cutting board.



Ahhh!  Nothing quite like a slice of zucchini fresh from the garden on summer's eve!  It was super duper deliciously awesome!

The republic of dessert

My big friends and I ate at Dessert Republic in San Mateo.  We were handed this spiffy gadget which read, "Press Button For Quick Service".  Awesome!



I was thirsty so I pressed the "WATER" button.  My water didn't appear miraculously fast, though, so while I waited for my water, I perused the menu.



Hmm, lots of odd items, but that's normal for Hong Kong style eateries.  Awesome!



My big friends and I ordered the pan fried noodles with curry beef... 



...the black pepper chicken and pork chop combo...



...fried calamari...



... and egg puffs.



Munch munch munch.  It was tasty indeedy-do!



We also ordered the dim sum combo.  Such awesome yellow and green colors in the dish! 

To Columbia and beyond Part II

There was a bunch of old mining equipment at Columbia State Historic Park.



I don't know what exactly they were used for, but the one in the photo below was like an awesome Ferris wheel for a little man!



Wheeee! 



Before I left, I signed the guestbook.  I do like leaving my mark on the world.



Afterwards, I visited the Mark Twain Bret Harte Trail.



This is the historical site of a ferry crossing that was established in 1860 by Thomas Parrott.  The ferry operated until the first bridge was built in 1903. 



Such an awesome time I had!  I can't wait for my next adventure as a little man in a big world!

To Columbia and beyond Part I

I had a downright awesome time at Columbia State Historic Park, located in the Sierra Nevada foothills.



It's a spiffy historic Gold Rush town that used to be known as the "Gem of the Southern Mines".



There are awesome old buildings and things galore!





Soon after gold was discovered in 1850, Columbia became a town of 4,000 to 5,000 peeps.



Gold shipments declined rapidly after 1858 but Columbia lived on unlike many other settlements established during the Gold Rush.  Go, Columbia!



Ooh, jail.  Reminds me when I was imprisoned in that little yellow plastic margarine tub.  Jails always give me the shivers.  Come back for Part II!
