Monsters

This is me with Sulley, Mike, and Celia.  And that's Randall lurking in the back.

Soon Celia and her "googly bear" got busy and Randall creeped closer to Sulley.

And I went on my merry way.

Kool Klondike

It was a little warm on Tuesday so I cooled off with some ice cream.

Unwrapping my Klondike bar.

I began eating from a corner.

There was vanilla ice cream within the dark chocolate shell.

By the time I was almost done polishing off the Klondike bar, it was starting to melt.

But it was still awesomely delicious!

Green shirts

I accompanied my big friends to an Old Navy store.

I looked at green shirts.

They were all far too large for me.

40 pieces

I love eating sushi.

This tray of sushi had 40 awesome pieces.

In its full splendor.

Sesame seeds are awesome!

Covered with a ginger blanket.

Taking a rest.  Do you like sushi?

Discovering gold Part V

Today's the last part of Discovering gold

Awesome old wagons.

John Sutter and James Marshall went into the lumber business together, and a sawmill was built.  This is Sutter's Mill.  Actually, it's a replica of Sutter's Mill, as the original was torn down for its lumber.

A cool stamp mill.  It was huge, but I am in this picture.  Stamp mills crushed rocks to help extract gold.

Here's a close-up.

Inside an awesome metal thing, which I believe was used for hydraulic mining.

This was one awesome State Park!  Hopefully you learned something about gold mining.  Then you can tell everyone you learned something from Little Man.  That would be awesome!

Discovering gold Part IV

Next I visited the Man Lee Mining Exhibit.

It was full of awesome things like this water wheel.  I'm near the middle in this picture -- see that awesome little burst of color?

A mining cart full of rocks.  That's little ol' me on the rocks.

A compressed air drill.

And awesome old pictures of miners!

Afterwards, I went to the current post office.  It was quiet and empty inside.  Not much to see there so I left.

This building was built in the 1930's and used to house one of Coloma's past post offices.  Post offices are so awesome, you should go buy some cool stamps and mail some awesome letters to your buddies!

Discovering gold Part III

Sitting by a mining ditch.  Mining ditches carried the water needed for placer mining.

Nearby was James Marshall's cabin.  James Marshall was originally from New Jersey, and he was the one who discovered gold in 1848, spurring the California Gold Rush.

There was some awesome, rough-hewn wood furniture inside his cabin.  There was also a fire extinguisher by his bed.  His bed must be highly flammable.  Awesome!

Visiting one of the cemeteries.  Find me in the picture!

Back view of St. John's Church.

Sitting in a tree.  I had an awesome time climbing up it!

And the Marshall Monument.  It was awesome and huge!

Discovering gold Part II

I enjoyed the exhibits in the Gold Discovery Museum.

They were awesome and informative.  I learned that gold can be found in computers, radios, and TVs.

Also, people mined gold from lode deposits or placer deposits.  As one of the museum's signs said, "Lode deposits consist of veins of gold that have formed in cracks in the earth.  Placer deposits consist of loose gold that has accumulated in valleys, often amid the sand and gravel of riverbeds like that of the American River."  Awesome!  Maybe you'll learn something new, too!

After filling my big Little Man brain with more knowledge, I headed outside.

Ooh, the jail ruins.  It gave me the chills.

I didn't stay long.

A peaceful, old house representative of the 1860's.  Too bad it wasn't open at the time; I saw all sorts of awesome things through the windows.  Coming up next: James Marshall's cabin (did anyone ever call him Jimmy?) and more!

Discovering gold Part I

Hello, awesome friends!  I took a trip to Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma.

My visit was so awesome, there's going to be five parts.  Can you spy me in the above picture?  Look low and to the left.

Inside the Gold Discovery Museum were tons of awesome displays, including fake big people in downright spiffy clothes.  The picture is focused on the big person so you can admire his awesome outfit.

Sitting in an abalone shell.

Touching the furs.  Wowie, this one was soft!  My mighty green hand didn't want to stop touching it.

More awesome fake big people.

A model of Sutter's Mill.  Sutter as in John A. Sutter, the founder of Sacramento, which was know as New Helvetia way back in the mid-1800's.  History is awesome!
